  • Claremont MakerSpace Update

    Claremont MakerSpace
    Dear Claremont MakerSpace Community:

We would like to update you on important steps that the Claremont MakerSpace is taking in order to do our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to continue to provide a safe environment for our members and volunteers.

This weekend New Hampshire and Vermont declared a state of emergency and ordered all public and private schools closed. In keeping with that, the Claremont MakerSpace has cancelled all classes through April 6th.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has advised that there should be no gatherings of over 50 people for the next 8 weeks, and as such the Claremont MakerSpace Open House that had been scheduled for May 1st has been cancelled.

The Claremont MakerSpace remains closed to the non-member public and tours of our facility have been suspended indefinitely. We remain accessible for members.

Thank you for your continued understanding as we continue to take steps necessary to keep our members and volunteers safe.   This is a rapidly unfolding situation, and we will continue to make adjustments to our operations as necessary, and will keep you posted.

Stay healthy, keep makin’, wash your hands and stay home if you or a family member are feeling ill or at elevated risk, really.

    Claremont MakerSpace

Best Practices to Protect Your Health
We ask you to do your part!
    • Stay home when you are sick and seek medical care if needed
    • Stay home if you have been in contact with infected persons
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • Use elbow bumps or fist pumps instead of handshakes and hugs
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue away
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Claremont MakerSpace COVID-19 cancellations

Due to the expanding COVID-19 pandemic and with an abundance of caution, the Claremont MakerSpace has decided to cancel a number of upcoming activities.

    • All classes and activities scheduled for Friday March 13 through Tuesday March 17th have been cancelled.
    • Public tours of the MakerSpace are suspended until further notice.
    • We remain open for members, however, if you are feeling ill or have a fever or any cold or flu like symptoms, please stay home, contact your health care provider and follow their recommendation regarding treatment or self isolation.

We apologize for any inconvenience these cancellations might cause, but we feel that this is the most prudent course of action at this time.  This situation is rapidly unfolding. We will continue to monitor and follow guidance from local, regional and State agencies as we make a determination on activities scheduled for next week.  Please check our website for updates on upcoming classes and activities. Please continue to take steps to minimize the spread of all respiratory illness, including COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control recommends:

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Heavily soiled hands should be washed.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Stay home if you are sick.
    • Cover your cough or your sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The Claremont MakerSpace will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you informed of any further changes in our schedule or programming.<.span> Stay healthy and keep makin’Claremont MakerSpace

  • Intro to Laser Cutting – This Friday

    Makers,

The Claremont Makerspace’s laser cutter/engraver is an incredibly capable tool which can be used for making high precision cuts and engravings on a wide variety of materials. In this three hour class, we’ll walk through all the steps from idea to pressing the “go” button on the laser. After learning the basics, each student will create a simple design and cut it on the laser!

Although advanced design and computer skills aren’t required to take this course, in order to attend the optional follow-up certification session (to get approved to use the CMS’s laser cutter/engraver on your own) you will need to be comfortable operating and navigating the Windows-based computer.

More technically inclined students may bring a laptop and a USB jump drive to class. You may choose to install Inkscape or a free trial of Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw (the laser cutter workstation has a CorelDraw license) before you come to class to get familiar with the software and start on a vector design project.

Intro to Laser Cutting occurs this Friday from 6 – 8 PM,  to register please go here.
