    Greetings Upper Valley Makers:

We have two classes coming up this week in our Jewelry studio that we wanted to let you know about.

For most classes and events, CMS MEMBERSHIP IS NOT REQUIRED. That said, members receive a discount on registration and there are some classes/events that are for members only (this will be clearly noted in the event description).

Class policies (liability waiver, withdrawal, cancellation, etc.) can be found here.

Instructors: Interested in teaching a class at CMS? Please fill out our Class Proposal Form.

Tours: Want to see what the Claremont MakerSpace is all about? Tours are by appointment only due to COVID-19 restrictions. Contact Us to schedule your tour where you can learn about all the awesome tools that the CMS offers access to, as well as how membership, classes, and studio spaces work.

Basics of Wire Work for Jewelry

    Tue Aug 30 2022, from 05:30pm until 8:30pm EDT

In this class, we will cover the basics of wire (including metals, shapes and hardness); minimum wire work tools and their uses (including flat nose, round nose, chain nose pliers and side cutters); prepping a wire work project; simple and wrapped loops; beaded loops; making a wire clasp; properly wrapping wire bundles; basics of wrapping a stone; making a wire bail for a pendant.  Each participant will receive wire samples and bead samples. Each participant will complete a wire wrapped bracelet with clasp and a wrapped beaded pendant with bail. Students are welcome to bring their own toolkit (flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, side cutters, English & metric ruler).

Please note: The Claremont MakerSpace currently requires masks for all visitors and members.

Instructor: Angela Hill has been making jewelry since she completed her first seed bead woven bracelet at 9 years of age. After she retired from a successful career of teaching K-12, she sold her jewelry to local jewelry stores, on line and in crafts fairs for several years. Now she’s back to just doing it for pleasure. She enjoys wire work the most but also does silversmithing, stringing, knotting, seed bead weaving and mixed media metal work.

Class Fees: $10 includes assorted copper wire and assorted beads

    Wire Sculptured Pendant with Stone

    Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 5:30pm until 8:30pm EDT

We will quickly review the basics of wire and wire tools.  Each participant will create a wrapped and sculpted stone pendant with a woven bail and an adjustable knotted cord necklace and end beads.  The picture show a rectangular Agate stone but we will be using a 40-30mm rectangular Kyanite stone. Students are welcome to bring their own toolkit instead of using the MakerSpace tools (Flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, side cutters, English & metric ruler).

Please note: The Claremont MakerSpace currently requires masks for all visitors and members.

  • CMS Member Access Update

    Members:

Thank you for your cooperation in following the rules and procedures which we developed in conjunction with the City of Claremont and the State of New Hampshire.  Your adherence to these procedures during this difficult period has enabled us to provide uninterrupted access for members engaged in essential work,  and allow access to members engaged in qualified activities nearly a month earlier than other regional spaces were able to.

We are thrilled to see so many of you at the Claremont MakerSpace working on projects, supporting your business and creating.

Moving forward we are pleased to announce that beginning on Monday June 22, we will no longer need to require members to self-certify that they are engaged in essential business as defined by the State of New Hampshire.  Additionally,  the 10 person cap on building occupancy will be eliminated, we will no longer need to impose a one person per shop policy, and advance reservations for personal studio spaces and shops will no longer be required.

We do still recommend that you reserve time on high demand / long run tools to ensure you can get your work done.  You can make tool reservations at least six hours in advance on the member portal on our website at ClaremontMakerSpace.org/membersonly.

For your safety and that of the community, we will continue to have strict operating policies and procedures in place for the foreseeable future. You must agree to follow these rules before you can access the Claremont MakerSpace and your access card will not operate until you do so.  The updated Claremont MakerSpace Member Access Rules can be found on the CMS Member Portal at www.ClaremontMakerSpace.org/membersonly.

Masks covering your mouth and nose must continue to be worn at all times, 6 foot separation between members must be maintained at all times, and temperature and health checks will continue to be performed before you can enter the Claremont MakerSpace.

We hope to be announcing expanded operational hours next week that will provide additional opportunities for Members to access the Claremont MakerSpace.

Thanks, stay healthy and keep makin’

  • Claremont MakerSpace Update – Limited Operations v2.0

    Dear Makers

We are pleased to be writing to inform you that effective Monday May 18th, we will be entering limited operations v2.0 status.  Here is a summary of what has changed. You can find the complete policy and procedures regarding access to the Claremont MakerSpace during this period on our website.

Partial Access to MakerSpace being implemented.

As makers that engage in the act of manufacturing (making things), the Claremont MakerSpace will be implementing, on a trial basis, the rules applicable to the manufacturing sector of the economy described in Exhibit C of Governor Sununu’s Executive Order #40 (“Stay at Home 2.0”).

Makers will be able to self-certify their status as part of the essential manufacturing sector by navigating to the members only section of the Claremont MakerSpace website to review, and accept the terms and conditions for access to the Claremont MakerSpace during this period, and self certify.

Pursuant to the rules attached to this email, our first step will be to provide a 25 hour per week period for access to the Claremont MakerSpace, from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday.  Based upon what we learn from this updated status and our interaction with local and state authorities, we will modify these hours in the coming weeks.  Our hope is that we will be able to expand these hours.

Please read the enclosed rules for access to the MakerSpace, as they are for everybody’s safety including your own.

Financial Hardship Scholarship is being launched

We are very happy to report that we have funding that will be made available to subsidize members who have experienced severe financial hardship – including involuntary loss of employment or income as a result of COVID-19.  We will be providing more information on this in the near future.

Remote Education being launched at no charge

We miss having you all at classes at the MakerSpace, but we do not anticipate being able to run them until we can safely assemble again in groups.  In the meantime, we have been working with our instructors to launch remote education, and look forward to providing maker opportunities at a safe distance.  With the help of our donor community, these remote classes will be free for the next couple of months.

Although these are socially distant and extra cautious measures, we look forward to slowly welcoming you back to making and manufacturing at the Claremont MakerSpace. Thank you for being part of our community.

If you have any questions or problems accessing the Members Only Section to self certify or schedule time in a shop or on a tool, please contact us at info@ClaremontMakerSpace.org.

Claremont MakerSpace Limited Operations v2.0 Access Policy
  • Update from the Claremont MakerSpace

    Hello Maker Community,

We hope this email finds you well and that you are finding ways to keep being creative.

As of March 28th, 2020 TwinState MakerSpaces has moved to limited operations at the Claremont MakerSpace.  During this time access to the premises will be restricted to staff and certain individuals engaged in essential activities as that term is defined by the State of New Hampshire.

This is a temporary action that we feel is necessary to play our part as good citizens in limiting the spread of this dangerous illness.

We look forward to coming out on the other side of this national emergency as a stronger, more connected and more resilient community.  Please join and be active on our Community Forums at discourse.claremontmakerspace.org so that we can continue inspiring and supporting each other during this difficult period. We want to hear from you, we want to see what you are making and we want you to be part of the Maker Community in exile.

We have been constantly amazed by the dedication of our supporters, donors, volunteers, and everyone’s passion, talent and creativity and we look forward to the time when we can all gather together again at the Claremont MakerSpace and celebrate this amazing community.   Until then, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@twinstatemakerspaces.org, or on facebook or our forums with any questions, or just to say hi and let us know what you are working on.

TwinState MakerSpaces, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and during this difficult time we need your support. If you are able, please consider making a donation to support our important mission and enable us to continue supporting work on essential projects. Your support will also help us emerge from this crisis with the resources necessary to continue to grow the Claremont MakerSpace.

Please, if you can, make a donation on our website.

Be safe, stay healthy and keep makin’,

  • Claremont MakerSpace COVID-19 cancellations

Due to the expanding COVID-19 pandemic and with an abundance of caution, the Claremont MakerSpace has decided to cancel a number of upcoming activities.

    • All classes and activities scheduled for Friday March 13 through Tuesday March 17th have been cancelled.
    • Public tours of the MakerSpace are suspended until further notice.
    • We remain open for members, however, if you are feeling ill or have a fever or any cold or flu like symptoms, please stay home, contact your health care provider and follow their recommendation regarding treatment or self isolation.

We apologize for any inconvenience these cancellations might cause, but we feel that this is the most prudent course of action at this time.  This situation is rapidly unfolding. We will continue to monitor and follow guidance from local, regional and State agencies as we make a determination on activities scheduled for next week.  Please check our website for updates on upcoming classes and activities. Please continue to take steps to minimize the spread of all respiratory illness, including COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control recommends:

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Heavily soiled hands should be washed.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Stay home if you are sick.
    • Cover your cough or your sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The Claremont MakerSpace will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you informed of any further changes in our schedule or programming.<.span> Stay healthy and keep makin’Claremont MakerSpace

  • Make A Silver Ring!

    Makers,

Tomorrow, join us for Make A Silver Ring! Have you seen all of the pictures of beautiful rings that people have made in our jewelry studio? Well, now it’s your turn. While learning the basics of silver-smithing, the instructor will guide you through various options for how to embellish your band, the shape of which you will get to choose. Join us Wednesday to make your own.

This Sunday: Interested in how to solder LED’s and get into the art of electronics? Join us for a fun project during Make LED Dice.  Build a digital die that uses LEDs and a tilt sensor to light up randomly when you shake it.  Everything screws down to an acrylic plate that makes it both durable and functional. Family pairs (adult / child aged 10+) assembling a die together are welcome.
