    What you will learn/do:
. Learn about safety in the metal shop and welding studio
. Learn about MIG welding equipment and materials that can be used with a MIG welder.
. Use the MIG welding equipment to spot weld, draw a bead and join two pieces of metal.
. Evaluate the quality of your welds.

Must provide your own safety glasses, leather work shoes and leather gloves. Welding helmets, protective jackets, face shields and practice materials will be provided.

    ROSIE’S GIRLS CAMP

CAREER EXPLORATION FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS*

Our friends at HatchSpace in Brattleboro, Vermont in partnership with Vermont Works for Women, are hosting carpentry camps for middle school girls. These empowering experiences introduce girls and gender expansive youth to basic carpentry skills and help them overcome stereotypes that have held women back in the trades. Most important, these will be fun social learning experiences that we believe will contribute positively to girls’ development at an important time in their lives.

Rosie’s Girls® is our STEAM, trades, and career exploration summer day camp for middle school girls* offered in communities across Vermont.

At Rosie’s Girls, youth are introduced to skills and career fields that are nontraditional for their gender through hands-on learning in a supportive and empowering environment.

VWW staff member helps camper cut wood using a table saw at Rosie's Girls camp.

Our staff members create a safe space for youth to step outside their comfort zones, make new friends, and build confidence in exploring their passions.

A Rosie’s Girls instructor helps camper use a plasma cutter to make metal flowers.

In addition to trades and technical learning, campers learn from our social and emotional curriculum known as “Power Skills” to help them navigate school, friendships, and societal issues.

To join the Rosie’s Girls mailing list, email rosiesgirls@vtworksforwomen.org

*Rosie’s Girls welcomes into our program anyone who identifies as a girl regardless of assignment at birth. Our programs also welcome youth who are non-binary or gender expansive who are comfortable in a girl-centered space.
