    Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open House & Birthday Party! We had a blast celebrating our first year, sharing our members’ projects, and seeing so many new faces at the CMS! We’re looking forward to year two and hope to see all of you back at the MakerSpace soon.

    Special Event Next Week!

    We’re excited to offer a wire wrapping class with special guest instructor Angela Hill next Friday from 5:30 – 8:30!  Come learn the ins and outs of wire wrapping.  In this class special you’ll take a 25mm x 18mm gemstone oval and sculpt copper wire around it to form a pendant.  Angela Hill has been wire wrapping and sculpting for over 20 years, and will help you turn raw wire into an intricately wrapped form.  This class is a one time opportunity as Angela is visiting from California, so don’t wait to sign up!

    Every Tuesday, 6 PM

    Join us for 3D PRINT CLUB! Every week, we’ll get together and participate in an open design session. This event is all about self-directed learning and hanging out with other people working on 3D designs or prints. Bring your own laptop or make use of the (first come-first-serve) Makerspace laptops loaded with Fusion 360.

    3D Print Club is presented free, but registration is required. 

    Intro to Plasma Cutting

    August 8th, 6 – 8 :30 PM

    Plasma cutting is a powerful and versatile means of cutting steel, aluminum, and other conductive materials, for applications ranging from heavy industry to abstract art. In Intro to Plasma Cutting, students will the learn the fundamental processes and techniques for handheld plasma cutting using the Claremont MakerSpace’s Hypertherm Powermax85 – and will get plenty of hands-on practice with the tool. The goal of this class is to prepare students to be certified to use the CMS’s plasma cutter, handheld, independently.  

    This class is presented by The Claremont Makerspace and Hypertherm.

    Make A Silver Ring

    August 8th, 5:30 – 8:30 PM

    In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of silver-smithing while you make a simple silver ring! The instructor will guide you through various options for how to embellish your band, the shape of which you will get to choose.  You’ll try soldering and learn how to polish your finished product into a beautiful ring! No experience necessary. All materials will be provided, and $5 materials fee is included in the registration cost.

    Stories in the Loft

    Stories in the Loft in an evening of live storytelling led by the NH Storytelling Alliance. Join us for a unique blend of stories and music from featured teller Papa Joe Gaudet, New Hampshires Itinerant Storyteller.

    Refreshments will be served at 6:30pm, with the Intro & Opener kicking off at 6:45.

    This event, sponsored by Sharon & Steve Wood (fellow members of the NH Storytelling Alliance) is free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted. Please RSVP via the button below. 

    Make A Tile Top Table (Ages 10 – 14)

    August 13, 14, 15, 2019. 3 – 6 PM

    Kids will learn about some basic woodworking tools and processes while building a small pine tile top end table to take home. In a highly supervised and safe environment, Gail will cover plan reading, measuring and marking, cutting, drilling, sanding, building, tiling, and finishing. No experience necessary.

    Wear closed toed shoes.  Bring something to drink, a pencil with an eraser, and a tape measure if you have one.

    Intro to Sewing: Make A Recycled Bag

    August 13th, 6 – 8 PM

    Want to help solidify your basic sewing skills while making a tough (yet pretty!) grocery tote? Using grain feed bags we will up-cycle these to reusable grocery totes!  Choice of pictures and colors available. Do you love Horses? Pigs? Dogs? Purple? Pink? Many choices! And environmentally friendly. This is a great project to help you learn to sew, or practice your basic skills!

    TOMORROW NIGHT: Come celebrate the Claremont MakerSpace’s first year at our Open House & Birthday Party! With demos in all departments, a ton of inspiring projects, games, giveaways and the Epic Food Truck on site, it’s guaranteed to be a super fun evening! If you’ve been to the CMS before, this is a great time to return and see all the new and exciting developments (and bring your friends). If you’ve never been to the CMS before, this is the best time to check it out!

    Local designers and creatives, please join in a discussion with Lisa Gleeson of New Leaf Creative for tips on how to present your ideas, concepts and designs to your client that will help you gain their support and enthusiasm. All creatives welcome!

    Intro to MIG Welding

    August 6th, 6 – 8 PM

    This introductory MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding workshop will cover MIG welding safety, machine setup, technique and troubleshooting – with lots of hands on practice. Participants will get comfortable using a MIG welder while doing a basic starter project.

    Note: Individuals with no prior MIG welding experience are required to take this workshop before getting certified to use the CMS’s MIG welder on their own. If you already have substantial MIG welding experience, you may be eligible to test out of this training. For more information, please contact the CMS Metal Shop Lead, at: metalshop@claremontmakerspace.org.

  • This Week – Start Your Photoshop Journey….

    Are you ready to step up your photo editing skills? Want to learn how to manipulate your photos and take them to the next level?  Photoshop 101 is a basic introduction to the tools and uses of Adobe Photoshop Software for Photography and photo manipulation. We will be going through the different types of tools in the program and learning how to make our photos look PRO! Join photographer & CMS member Mel Tata for this series of classes. 

    Photoshop 101 starts this Wednesday July 24th from 6 – 9, with a second session on Thursday August 1st from 6 – 9. Register here!

    Socially Responsible Investing 101

    July 25th, 6 – 7:30 PM

    What is socially responsible investing? How does it perform? Are there risks? Join Sally Boyle, CFP, ChFC, CLU to help answer your questions.

    In this class we will learn the ins and outs of socially responsible investing, impact investing

    and ESG investing. Learn what your choices are and how to get the ball rolling on investing in something you believe in.  This event is free, but registration is required.

    CNC SLUG: Adirondack Chair Demo

    July 29th, 4 – 9 PM

    CMS’ CNC Shopbot router is an incredibly versatile machine that can be used to make everything from furniture to puzzles, to guitars to sculptures. To help create a more intensive learning environment around the Shopbot, CMS will be creating a meetup group, the CNC Shopbot SLUG (Super Learner User Group) for users to show-off their creations and talk about their projects.

    Join CMS member Scott Schafer as he cuts out a Adirondack chair of his own design. The project takes approximately four hours to cut, we will begin around 4 PM and have a SLUG Meetup at 6 PM to chat about Scott’s project experience, design, tips and tricks and future SLUG events and projects.

  • Quilting Machine Training & New Classes Added

    Makers,

    The Claremont MakerSpace’s quilting machine is a great tool for creative, efficient quilting! In this hands-on training session, participants will learn how to set up a project on the quilting machine and utilize its standard features. Participants of this class will have the opportunity to sign up for follow-up certification sessions, so that they may use the machine on their own. Quilting Machine Training will run tomorrow (Saturday, July 20th) from 4:30 – 6 PM!

    Conversation in Crypto

    Saturday, July 20th, 6 PM

    Decentralize Upper Valley presents a monthly meetup with guest speaker and open style Q and A session, third Saturdays 6-8 pm in beautiful Claremont New Hampshire’s new Maker Space.

             Topics to be discussed:

          -What is Cryptography?

          – Is NH really the Crypto capital of the world?

          – How can I get involved?

    In celebration of this being our inaugural session refreshments will be served, come be part of New Hampshire’s newest Crypto community.

    Photoshop 101

  • Intro to Creative Handstitching – Tomorrow!

    Makers,

    Has your phone outgrown your pockets? Do you need something constructive and calorie-free to do with your hands while watching TV? Are your boring jeans, well, boring? In this fun and easy class we learn the basics of handsewing with simple, rustic Sashiko-inspired stitches, turning denim scraps into something unique and practical. All materials provided but you may bring your own denim garment to patch (no stretch knits please, that’s a different class). No previous sewing experience required but must be able to use pins, needles, and scissors safely. Patches, Pockets & Pouches will run this Thursday from 6 – 8 PM!

    The Claremont MakerSpace’s quilting machine is a great tool for creative, efficient quilting! In this hands-on training session, participants will learn how to set up a project on the quilting machine and utilize its standard features. Participants of this class will have the opportunity to sign up for follow-up certification sessions, so that they may use the machine on their own.

    Decentralize Upper Valley presents a monthly meetup with guest speaker and open style Q and A session, third Saturdays 6-8 pm in beautiful Claremont New Hampshire’s new Maker Space.

          – How can I get involved?

    In celebration of this being our inaugural session refreshments will be served, come be part of New Hampshire’s newest Crypto community.

    Photoshop 101 is a basic introduction to the tools and uses of Adobe Photoshop Software for Photography and photo manipulation. We will be going through the different types of tools in the program.

    Subjects covered in Photoshop 101 will include:

     – File types – What types of files to use for specific purposes & how to convert.

    – Resizing images, canvas size and zooming

    – Using toolbars

    – Layers, adjustments, solid colors

    – Levels, curves, contrast, vibrance, balancing

    – Transform, rotate, scale, skew, warp and distort

    – Adding, removing and changing text

    – Selection techniques

    – Various other tips, tricks and hints

    Socially Responsible Investing 101

    What is socially responsible investing? How does it perform? Are there risks? Join Sally Boyle, CFP, ChFC, CLU to help answer your questions.

    In this class we will learn the ins and outs of socially responsible investing, impact investing

    and ESG investing. Learn what your choices are and how to get the ball rolling on investing in something you believe in.  This event is free, but registration is required.

    Wednesday, July 17th, 5:30 – 8:30 PM

    In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of silver-smithing while you make a simple silver ring! The instructor will guide you through various options for how to embellish your band, the shape of which you will get to choose.  You’ll try soldering and learn how to polish your finished product into a beautiful ring! No experience necessary. All materials will be provided, and $5 materials fee is included in the registration cost.

    Join us for Intro to 3D Printing – Wednesday!

    Become an Instructor at CMS!

    CMS Instructors come from a variety of skill sets and backgrounds, the unifying characteristic being a desire to share their knowledge and expertise. CMS is always interested in finding new and qualified instructors to lead tool training, create hands-on projects, explain interesting concepts and impart their knowledge.  Workshops can range from within one of our departments (Woodshop, Machine Shop, Welding, Sewing, Textiles, Jewelry, Electronics, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing) to computer and software skills, entrepreneurial readiness, hobby development, crafting and a lot more.   • Upcoming Deadline! Robot Build & Dance Party!

    Makers,

    This Sunday! Join us for a Robot Build & Dance Party! 

    Join us for a day of building robots for a dance party at the Claremont Makerspace Open House later in July.  If dancing isn’t your thing, your robot can also be setup as a sumobot (we’ll have the sumo ring up during the open house too)!  Each ticket covers the cost of the robot kit (which you get to keep) and lunch. This event is all ages, but children are to be accompanied by their parent. 

    Note: Registration closes Thursday, July 11th!

    3D Print Club

    Every Tuesday, 6 PM

    Join us for 3D PRINT CLUB! Every week, we’ll get together and participate in an open design session. This event is all about self-directed learning and hanging out with other people working on 3D designs or prints. Bring your own laptop or make use of the (first come-first-serve) Makerspace laptops loaded with Fusion 360.

    3D Print Club is presented free, but registration is required. 

    Make A Silver Ring

    Wednesday, July 10th, 5:30 – 8:30 PM

    In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of silver-smithing while you make a simple silver ring! The instructor will guide you through various options for how to embellish your band, the shape of which you will get to choose.  You’ll try soldering and learn how to polish your finished product into a beautiful ring! No experience necessary. All materials will be provided, and $5 materials fee is included in the registration cost.

    Robot Build & Dance Party

    July 14th, 10 am – 4 pm

    Intro to 3D Printing

    July 17th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM

    Intro to 3D Printing is for anyone that has zero to little experience with 3D Printing.  We will provide an overview of 3D printers and the printing process – covering everything from the way 3D printers are built through the ways we use them to create objects. In this beginner level class, we will discuss different methods of 3D printing and cover the fundamental steps for designing and printing models. Participants will get to know how the MakerSpace’s printers – the LulzBot Taz 6 and Lulzbot Mini – work, and how to use them safely. Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to sign-up for certification sessions on these machines, so that they can use them on their own at the CMS.

    Bringing your own laptop is strongly encouraged!

    Photoshop 101 is a basic introduction to the tools and uses of Adobe Photoshop Software for Photography and photo manipulation. We will be going through the different types of tools in the program.

    Subjects covered in Photoshop 101 will include:

    – Using toolbars

    – Layers, adjustments, solid colors

    – Levels, curves, contrast, vibrance, balancing

    – Transform, rotate, scale, skew, warp and distort

    – Adding, removing and changing text

    – Selection techniques

    – Various other tips, tricks and hints

Desker responsibilities include giving tours, welcoming participants of classes and events, helping to keep common areas organized and more.     Makers,

    Photoshop 101 is a basic introduction to the tools and uses of Adobe Photoshop Software for Photography and photo manipulation. We will be going through the different types of tools in the program.
