  • Lean Manufacturing 101

    Makers,

Lean manufacturing or lean production, often simply “lean”, is a systematic method for waste elimination within a manufacturing system without sacrificing safety, quality, productivity or on time delivery. Lean tools and concepts focus on reducing the delay from the time an order is received to the time the item or service is delivered to the customer and the bill is paid. Lean can be instrumental in the continued success and growth of a small business while making your customers more satisfied and your business more profitable!

This free class is presented by Canam Bridges US Inc. Small businesses and early start-ups are encouraged to attend, as well as individuals that would like to grasp the important concepts of Lean manufacturing.

Lean Manufacturing 101 will be on Saturday, April 6th from 8 am – 2 pm.  To register, please go here:

This event is offered free, but registration is required.

  • Blockchain & Private Keys 101 (& Upcoming Classes)

    Makers,

Bitcoin and blockchain, the underlying technology, have been emerging for a decade. While still nascent technologies, we are on a journey of discovery all over the world to uncover what this is and how we may use it to improve the human condition. We will explore some historical context, and will provide a foundation to scratch the surface. Short and sweet with a little interactive fun. You will leave with basic concepts of blockchain and cryptography, plus some tokens! Join us tomorrow for a free class from Interchain.live on Blockchain & Private Keys 101.

Tomorrow, is also 3D Print Club in which every week, we get together and participate in a freestyle design session. In a freestyle, participants simply design what they want to.

On Wednesday, Intro to Arduino which serves as a great introduction to the world of physical computing! It is for anyone who has never played around with Arduino before and those who have played around a little bit but aren’t entirely sure about how the basics work. We’ll blink some lights, turn some motors, read some sensors and make a little noise.

Thursday night is our Intro to Plasma Cutting class. Perhaps you saw recent pictures of our beautiful new sign outside of our building (made in house on CMS’ Hypertherm Plasma Cutter). Plasma cutting is a powerful and versatile means of cutting steel, aluminum, and other conductive materials, for applications ranging from heavy industry to abstract art. In Intro to Plasma Cutting, students will learn the fundamental processes and techniques for handheld plasma cutting using the Claremont MakerSpace’s Hypertherm Powermax85 – and will get plenty of hands-on practice with the tool. The goal of this class is to prepare students to be certified to use the CMS’s plasma cutter, handheld, independently. Please register for this class by end of the day Tuesday, March 26th!

Are you a NH-based artist/maker looking for space, funds, and an incredible set of tools to create your next project? Check out the CMS Artist In Residence Program!

This program is designed to spur innovative, creative projects by regional artists, by supporting selected applicants with CMS membership, a studio space, $600 towards work created at the CMS and $200 towards classes to learn how to use new tools. All mediums and levels of experience are invited to apply.

Learn more and apply to be the next CMS Artist In Residence: HERE.

TwinState MakerSpace, Inc. (and the CMS Artist In Residence Program) is supported in part by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

    In the News

This week, The Eagle Times wrote a feature on our current Artist in Residence, Allison Zito. Allison spoke about her installation (currently on display at the CMS lobby) and what has inspired her to develop it.

“I like to make a statement with my work, but there’s a lot of ugliness that I don’t want to contribute to more than I must. When I teach children or adults I like to show them the greatest of human achievements.”

CMS was also featured in the article ‘Regional program is key to helping rural communities’ in the Keene Sentinel, written by New Hampshire Representatives Jeanne Shaheen and Ann Kuster.

The economic opportunities available through the NBRC (Northern Borders Regional Commission) cast a wide net, which makes this program an excellent asset for our cities and towns. One of the best examples of this is the Claremont MakerSpace, which was awarded $250,000 in 2015 to get the project off the ground, renovating an old manufacturing building to house a shared work space for Granite State craftsmen and entrepreneurs. Director of the Claremont MakerSpace Josh Bushueff said: “The support of NBRC was instrumental in our successful conversion of a former brownfield site into the Claremont MakerSpace, an 11,000-square-foot facility that is now the hub of education, entrepreneurship and job skills training in downtown Claremont.
